New R&D Centre to enhance oil recovery

The Research Council (TRC), represented by Innovation Park Muscat (IPM), signed on on 05 October 2016  the first pact to establish a Research and Development (RD) Centre in the field of heavy oil extraction with Enhanced Oil Recovery LLC (EOR).

It was signed by Dr. Abdul Baqi Al Khabouri, Director of the Scientific Precincts at TRC, and Abdullah al Mandhari, Chairman of EOR LLC.HH Sayyid Shihab bin Tareq al Said, Advisor to His Majesty the Sultan and Chairman of TRC, said that IPM will be the main incubator for TRC and different sectors.  It will be located near Sultan Qaboos University (SQU).  He hoped that a positive interaction will be maintained between TRC and IPM researchers to ensure more development.

The centre aims at providing high quality and modern services to implement advanced solutions for the challenges being faced by oil and gas exploration and production.  The establishment of R&D centre aims at enhancing energy sector, especially oil and gas in the light of the current economic circumstances to make it more competitive at the regional and international levels.  The centre will provide training and employment opportunities for Omanis with prestigious scientific qualifications and will also contribute in subsidising and activating the local economy and will develop national manpower in a way that will steer oil sector towards success and sustainability.

The centre, which will be set up at the scientific park at IPM in Al Khoudh, Muscat, will stretch over 3,000 square metres. Three buildings will be built at IPM, the first of which is the main building or the Innovation Building, which consists of seven floors.  The second will be dedicated for manufacturing workshops for the prototypes and the third will be a social club (café shops and swimming pool).  The three buildings are expected to be completed next year.
